The Georgians who meet the following eligibility criteria of HB112 refunds will be entitled to receive the tax rebate:

  • The permanent full-year Georgia resident for tax purposes will be eligible.
  • The 2023 and 2024 tax years tax returnmust be filed; the tax refund may also be available to non-resident Georgian taxpayers who filed in 2023 and 2024 tax returns.
  • The person shouldn’t be mentioned on someone else’s income tax return as a dependent.

Rebate Amount

According to the HB112 bill, the eligible Georgian taxpayers will receive the benefit based on their tax return filing status, such as:

Filing Status Tax Rebate Amount
Single or married but filing separately $250
Head of Household $375
Married filing jointly $500

The Georgia government will send the tax rebate to the taxpayers either through direct deposit or paper check, based on the payment mode you have selected for tax refund when you filed the state tax return. The government report says that previous rebates, tax exemptions, and grants have returned up to $6.6 billion to Georgians.

When to expect?

The Georgians can expect the surplus tax rebate after their tax return for the 2024 tax year is processed. Although the federal tax deadline for the 2024 tax year has passed, Georgians’ tax return deadline has been extended to May 01, 2025, due to Hurricane Helene’s impact on the state.

Georgia is one of the US states that got the tax return extension till 01 May 2025, so the Georgians still have time to file the tax returns and receive the additional tax rebate announced by the government with their normal tax refund.

The tax rebate will be processed depending on your tax return filing and the payment mode you selected (direct deposit or paper check). The direct depositors can expect the rebate in their account early after their tax return is assessed, while paper checks can take time to reach.

How to track the rebate status?

Georgians who wish to know the status of their tax rebate after they file their tax returns can use the refund status tool. To check the refund status, you would need your ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification number) or Social Security Number, adjusted income listed on the income tax return, and the refund amount.

. The Georgians who wish to track the rebate status online can follow the steps below, as telephone lines usually get busy during tax season:

  •  First, go to the Georgia Department of Revenue’s Refund status direct link mentioned above.
  • Next, find the “Check My Refund Status online” and click it to go to the Tax Services portal.
  • Next, find the Click Here option for the Georgia Surplus tax refund.
  • Next, select your ID type, enter your ID number,  and other details.
