Broiler Chicken Settlement 2025: Claim Deadline, Eligibility Criterias, Payout 

Broiler Chicken has many lawsuits going on, one such lawsuit is based on the overcharged price of raw chicken.  In the class action lawsuit, a new settlement of $22.5 million was reached at the preliminary approval stage, bringing the total settlement fund to $203.35 million.

The settlement administrator has opened the claim form for the new settlement for the consumers, and it will remain open till the deadline, 31 July 2025. The class members who have already filed the claim for the Broiler Chicken settlement do not need to file it for the new settlement. 

The class member who wishes to exclude themself from the settlement or opt out from the settlement must file the respective form before 12 May 2025. The lawsuit claims many chicken processors fixed the price and limited the raw chicken supply, which led the consumers to pay more for the chicken.

Who will receive it?

According to the new settlement, the consumers who meet the following conditions can submit the claim form:

  • You are an individual or organization that directly or indirectly bought the raw chicken (fresh or frozen), or whole bird chicken (with or without giblets, cut-up birds, tenderloin or breast cuts, from the defendants or conspirators in Repealer Jurisdictions ir related states during the class period, 01 January 2012 and 31 July 2019. ‘
  • The raw chicken in the settlement excludes the chicken labeled as kosher, halal, organic, ground, seasoned, breaded, free range, diced, flavored, or minced. 
  • The Repealer jurisdiction in the settlement involves: Florida, Kansas, California, Hawaii, District of Columbia, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Utah, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Tennessee. 

Settlement Payout 

The New Settlement over the raw chicken will allow the Harrison Poultry to pay $2,900,000, Koch Foods to pay $5,000,000, OK Foods to pay $3,200,000, House of Raeford to pay $4,500,000, Simmons to pat $3,000,000, Mountaire to pay $3,000,000, Sanderson Farms to pay $750,000, whereas the Claxton Poultry, Wayne Farms, Foster farms, and Perdue do not have money to pay but they have settled the lawsuit. 

With all the defendants, the new settlement fund is $22.5 million, and adding this to the previous settlement, the total fund is $203.35 million, from which the class members will receive the payout. The payout for each consumer is not decided yet, as it depends on the quantity of chicken they bought, the number of valid claims, the money they paid, etc. 

The settlement administrator will distribute the fund proportionally, keeping all the factors in mind, so the payout may vary between the class members. With the settlement fund, the administration will also cover the other expenses of the settlement, such as attorney fees & costs, administration expenses, or an award for the class representative. 

How to claim?

The class members of the Broiler Chicken settlement can file the claim for the new settlement if they haven’t filed for the previous one, as the previous settlement claimants will be automatically included in the new settlement.  The class members of the Overcharge Chicken settlement can file the claim online on the settlement website by following these steps:

  • First, click the new settlement website at https://www.overchargedforchicken.com/
  • Next, scroll down and click the option “File Your claim Here” to go to the new page.
  • Next, enter your name, contact, address, city, state, Zip code, email address, mobile phone, and other information on the new page and confirm your purchase on the webpage. 
  • Next, enter your name in the certificate section of the page that certifies you have submitted accurate information, and submit the form. 

Once you submit the form, make sure you note down the confirmation code that assures your successful claim form submission for the Broiler Chicken settlement.

When to expect?

The federal court will decide to approve the new settlement at a hearing set on 30 June 2025 in the Illinois District Court. If the court approves the new settlement of Broiler chicken, the class members can expect it shortly after, in four to five months.

However, it can take time or be delayed if an appeal was filed against the new settlement or the administration needs more time to process the payout to the class members with approved claims. 

The Broiler Chicken’s new settlement of a $22.5 million fund is open to claim, the class members can submit their claims before 31 July 2025 to receive the appropriate money as compensation for the higher price they paid for the raw chicken.
