The California application window for the e-bike incentives opened on 29 April 2025 at 5 PM California residents who wish to get this rebate must complete the application. The residents had to wait in the virtual room to be shortlisted to complete the application process.
The portal will randomly select the first 1000 applicants to enter the application portal; hence, people with a number greater than 1000 have no guarantee that they will receive the incentive. The incentive is available for eligible e-bikes, and the applicants must get approval for the incentive before purchasing the e-bike.
People are encouraged to adopt e-bikes and contribute to environmental sustainability through this incentive project. The residents can expect to receive a rebate of up to $2000 that can be utilized to buy the e-bike and other eligible items.

Who is eligible?
With the California E-bike Incentive Project, the state has set the following eligibility conditions for the residents:
- You must be a California resident whose age is 18 years or above; your residency will be verified with your California driver’s license, ID card, or AB 60 license.
- Your household income should be 300% of the federal poverty line or less, such as

Eligible E-bike
The eligible E-bike that will get you the rebate from the incentive project follows the conditions below:
- Electric bikes that meet UL and/or EN requirements and are newly classified as Class 1-3. These e-bikes need to have a 750-watt maximum power motor, fully functional pedals, and front lights that are powered by the battery.
- Only authorized motor stores, retailers would be eligible for the e-bike purchase, and they should come with a minimum one-year manufacturing guarantee.
E-bike Rebate
The project offers an incentive voucher that can be used in the purchase, and this voucher can be used for a maximum of a $2000 purchase. So, the residents can expect the following worth of vouchers under the e-bike rebate:
- Basic Incentive voucher for all applicants whose application is approved: $1750
- Priority applicants with 225% of the FPL household income will receive an additional prize: $250
So, the priority applicants will receive the maximum incentive rebate worth $2000 under the project and use the voucher to buy many things related to e-bikes.
What can you buy with the voucher?
As mentioned, the eligible California residents can use the E-bike incentive vouchers to purchase things related to E-bikes or e-bikes themselves, such as
- Eligible E-bike
- E-bike delivery or assembly charges
- E-bike accessories, like Bike lock, Mirrors, fenders, helmets, racks, reflective clothing, etc.
The residents should keep in mind that the voucher is used for the eligible items when they are bought at the same time as they buy the eligible e-bike from the approved store or retailer.
Application Process
Eligible California people must have entered the virtual room on April 29, 2025, when they click the apply link on the website. After that, up to 1000 applicants will be selected randomly to enter the application portal. The applicants who enter the E-bike incentive application portal can follow the steps below:
- At the portal, you must enter your information, like name, address, contact, etc.
- Then come to the residency verification, and here you must upload your licence or other recommended documents.
- After that, complete your income verification by uploading the tax return transcript, or if you did not file taxes, you can upload your income documents, like benefit receipt, W-2 employee pay, etc.
- Once the verification and document uploading are complete, review the application and submit it.
What happens next?
After you submit the application, the authority will review your application, and if you are eligible for the incentive, you will receive an approval notification from the authority via email, where your incentive amount and voucher expiration date will be mentioned.
California residents should know the voucher is valid for 45 days from the approval notice issuance date, though the recipients can receive the 45 days more extension on request if it is not possible to buy the e-bike during that period.
So, if you got the approval on time, immediately begin your search for the approved retailer or store to purchase the e-bike and other accessories. You can find the approved retailer on the incentive project website map. The residents also remember to complete the education requirement of watching two videos related to e-bike safety and climate impact videos before they go to purchase the e-bike.
