The newly appointed Canadian Prime Minister has ended the carbon tax or federal fuel charge, in-effect from 01 April 2025. The Canada Carbon rebate is used to counterbalance the carbon tax paid by Canadians and ensure that households get their money back and get some financial relief.

How to claim?
Canadians who have filed their 2024 tax return before 02 April 2025 will automatically receive the final payment of the CCR through direct deposit or another payment mode you elected while filing the return for the refund. However, if you haven’t filed the tax return, then you still have time till 30th April 2025 in the following steps:
- First, gather all the needed documents for the 2024 tax year tax return filing.
- Next, file the income tax return electronically either through tax software or the CRA NETFILE.
- If you are eligible for the rural supplement, do not forget to mark the Rural supplement on Page 2 of the return.
- Once all the tax information is reviewed and valid, file it accordingly.
You can file the tax return within the deadline and expect your payment of CCR when your return is processed and reviewed by the CRA, hence, the payout may come after you file, depending on the timing of your filing the return.
If you do not receive the CCR payment after filing the 2024 tax return within the standard time of the refund processing, you should wait for 10 business days before contacting the CRA to know the status of your rebate.
