The Canadian government offers support to parents and guardians with rising child-rearing costs through the Canada Child Benefit. The monthly benefit helps families and supports them financially for children under the age of 18.

The Canadian should remember, the benefit is not available for the foster child, however, as long as CSA is not payable for the child, you may be eligible for the CCB if you live with and provide care for a child under a close relation or kinship program run by the Canadian government, a territory, a province, or an Indigenous governing body.
Payout Amount
The Canada Revenue Agency adjusts the CCB payments based on the number of children you are caring for, the age of the children, and the adjusted family income reported on the previous year’s tax return. Currently, the July 2024 to June 2025 financial year, the payment is based on the recipient’s AFNI of 2023.
The maximum payout under the CCB is processed when the AFNI is under $36,502; it will be reduced when income crosses the limit. The maximum CCB payout for the April 2025 FY July 2024 to June 2025) is:
- $648.91 a month ($7,787 annually) for a child under 6 years of age;
- $547.50 a month ($6,570 annually) for a child aged between 6 to 17 years.
You can calculate your payout based on the number of children qualifying for the CCB payout, their age, and your AFNI in the 2023 tax year. The CCB payout is increasing from July 2025 for FY July 2025 to June 2026 up to $666.42 for a child under 6 and $562.33 for a child aged between 6 to 17 years.
The payout may be different if the person is sharing the custody of the child; the person with whom the child lives the most may receive the higher portion of the CCB payout.
