Climate Action Incentive Payment 2025: Province-Wise Payout Date & Amount!

The Canadian government has ceased the federal fuel charge effective on 01 April 2025, which led to the removal of the provinces and territories’ obligation to implement a consumer-facing carbon price. The elimination of the carbon tax also stops the Climate Action Incentive Payment, now called the Canada Carbon Rebate for individuals.

The CCR is offered to support eligible Canadians and households in counterbalancing the cost of the carbon tax they pay and providing them with some financial relief. Now that the carbon tax is canceled, the CRA is processing the last payment of the rebate to eligible Canadians.

Eligible Canadians will begin receiving the CCR’s final payment on April 22, 2025. The Canadians got quarterly payments under this rebate based on the applicable provinces and territories, where they get basic and rural supplements.

As we mentioned earlier, the Canadian government offers a base amount and a rural supplement in the Canada Carbon Rebate; however, the rural supplement is increased to 20% due to the previous increment. The CRA adjusts the payment annually for each province to ensure it is in line with inflation.

Latest update

According to the latest update, the CRA has processed the rural supplement for some individuals who were not eligible for it. Now, to ensure the system is fair and equal for all the recipients, the CRA is trying to recover the mistaken payments made to such individuals.

Canada Revenue Agency will send an official notice to the individuals who received the erroneous payments under the rural supplement of the rebate to recover the overpayment. The agency has started to send the notice from 15 April 2025, so if you received the overpayment, you can expect the notice soon with the method to return the payment to the agency.

What happens when no return is filed yet?

As previously stated, the final CCR payment will commence on 22 April 2025 for only those who e-filed their 2024 tax and benefit returns before 02 April 2025. Now, the individuals who have not filed the return yet must be wondering what happens if they have not filed the taxes yet.

According to the agency, the individuals who filed the return after 02 April 2025, with the last date of 30 April 2025, would receive the rebate final payment after their 2024 tax and benefit return is reviewed and assessed by the agency.
