Who is eligible?

The following requirements must be fulfilled by New York dashers in order to be eligible for the DoorDash settlement:

  • The NY Dashers who made the delivery between May 2017 and September 2019, and the customers gave them a tip.
  • When they accept the delivery and complete it, DoorDash uses the tip to cover the guaranteed pay; in this way, the customer tip makes no difference to the dashers, whether the customer tipped more.

Payout Amount

The New York Attorney General has declared that DoorDash will pay $16.75 million to compensate the dashers who did not receive the tips that the customers paid when they completed the delivery.

The $16.7 million fund will be used to compensate the dashers; the OAG will determine the payout for the dashers based on deliveries they made during the settlement class period, and a tip. DoorDash used the tip to give the Dasher the guaranteed salary that they presented when they accepted the delivery.

The deliveries on which the dashers received the tip and did not get the tip will be utilized to compute the payout. However, if the Dasher’s pay comes out to be less than $10, the administrator will not issue any payment to the Dasher. The payout amount for each dasher may vary from one another, hence we can’t determine the payout per person of the settlement.

Injunctive Relief

With this settlement, the delivery platform, DoorDash, not only agreed to the payout or compensation for the dashers, but they also promised the following injunctive relief:

  • The platform has agreed to review the payment model for the dasher to ensure that the tips customers paid to the dasher when they made the delivery will be entirely given to the dasher without influencing the guaranteed pay or contributing to the guaranteed pay confirmed when they accept the delivery.
  • The platform offers complete transparency to the dashers and consumers, where they have promised to disclose the basic pay, tips paid by the customer, promotional bonuses, and others for every delivery.
  • The platform also confirms that now the dashers can access their delivery history for at least 4 years, as earlier, they could only view the history for only five months, but not more than 200.

How to file a claim?

The dashers or drivers of DoorDash settlement who are eligible for the compensation can file the claim online or send the claim form offline to the administrator’s postal address.
