Ireland Lump Sum Payment Increase 2025: New Payment Rates and Other!

The Ireland government offers a lump sum payment to support three groups for surviving the rising cost of living. In the Budget 2025, the government announced cost-of-living measures and offered a lump sum payment with many benefits.

Under this recent announcement, the carers get an increase of a €150 lump sum payment to support them in covering their expenses when they care for the elderly or people with serious illnesses. This increase of €150 makes the annual payment rate up to €2000 from an initial payment of €1850.

This is the carer support grant, which does not depend on the individual’s family income or assets, or their resources. The Irish Department of Social Protection administers this lump sum payment. Careers wondering about the upcoming lump sum payment can check every detail in the article below.

Who will receive it?

According to the Carer’s Support Grant, the carers who receive any of the following allowances and benefits will receive the lump sum payment:

  • Carer’s Benefit
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Domiciliary Care Allowance (DCA)

The carer receives the lump sum payment for any of the above carer allowance and benefits, even if you qualify for more than one allowance.

What if you don’t get any of these payments?

If you are a carer and do not receive any of the above-mentioned allowances and benefits, you can still get the lump sum payment if you meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Your age is 16 or above, you live in the Irish state;
  • You are caring for the person full-time;
  • You must care for the person you are applying the grant for a minimum of six months (continuously), and this caring period includes June’s first Thursday.
  • For the person you are caring for, you live with them or you are contactable directly by any communication system, like an alarm or phone.
  • If you are caring for the child or baby in a hospital or any other institution, you may get the lump sum payment if the baby or child qualifies for the Domiciliary Care Allowance.

Exclusions:

  • You are excluded from the grant if you are self-employed, working, or having training or pursuing an education course for more than 18.5 hours a week.
  • You receive the JobSeeker benefits or allowances;
  • You are living in a hospital, a recovery home, or any other similar institution.

When can you expect?

According to Ireland’s social welfare guidelines, the carer who is eligible for the lump sum payment receives the payment each year on the first Thursday of June. The carers can expect the full payment of €2000 from June 2025.

If you are caring for more than one person, you will receive the grant for each person, but you have to present the proper documentation for each person you are caring for. The lump sum payment is fully exempted from income tax, Pay-related Social Insurance, and Universal Social Charges, providing the needed relief to the carers.

With the annual lump sum payment, the carers can improve their livelihood and manage their expenses well while caring for the disabled, ill, or elderly people.

Do you need to claim it?

The carers who receive the three carer benefits or allowances listed in the grant would automatically receive the payment every year in June, they do not have to do anything. However, if they do not receive any of the benefits and meet the eligibility requirements, they have to apply for the lump sum payment.

The carers can apply for the Carer’s Support Grant by downloading the form from the official website and, with the relevant documents, send the completed form to the following address:

  • Carer’s Support Grant Section,
  • Social Welfare Services Office,
  • Government Buildings,
  • Ballinalee Road, Longford Co. Longford,
  • N39 E4E0
  • Email ID: Carerssupportgrant@welfare.ie
  • Phone Number: 0818 927 770

With the Budget 2025, the lump sum payment for the three groups is increased by €150. The carers can expect the increased payment in June 2025, so be ready. If you do not receive any of the benefits, apply for the grant and receive the one-time payment from the government.
