Payment Date
As we mentioned earlier, the Nationwide CEO says the £50 bonus payment will be made to eligible members of the building society by 30 April 2025. Members who have a National Bank or savings account will receive the money directly into their accounts.
If members do not have a suitable account, the Society will send their cheques by mail. Members can expect to receive the physical cheque by 14 May 2025. The members with a mortgage will get the payment directly into the same bank account that is used to pay their direct debit offered under their name.
Who is eligible?
Nationwide is set to disperse the bonus payment as an appreciation to the customers. Here are the eligibility criteria for the members who will receive this bonus:
- The Nationwide members who have a current account, savings account, or mortgage with a building society as of 30 September 2024 will be eligible.
- The members who have at least made one transaction or had a balance of £100 in any of their accounts during the 12 months, till September 2024 period will be eligible.
- Or the members who hold any active account or mortgage with the building Society at the time of payment will receive this bonus.
Why this bonus?
Nationwide acquired Virgin Money on 01 October 2024, which was worth £2.8 billion. These acquisitions have created a stronger organization, which has made Nationwide Building Society UK’s second largest provider of savings accounts and mortgages.
The Nationwide Chief Executive says the payment is an appreciation to the members who have been a part of the building society, and they strengthen the society financially. The Chief Executive says they recognize the role of the members in the acquisition as they make the deal possible.
During the time of the deal, Debbie Crosbie said the benefits of the deal would be used for enhancements of the customer service and others. Nationwide also paused the Virgin Money plans to shut down some branches and ensure they will not leave any branch and will work to resolve the issues. The deal between Nationwide and Virgin Money is the biggest deal since the financial crisis hit the United Kingdom.
Do you have to claim it?
According to the Nationwide announcement, the eligible members do not have to do anything to claim the upcoming bonus as the payment is a part of the “Big Nationwide Thank You” campaign. The building society will process the payment automatically to the account of the eligible members with the qualifying account.
The payment will be made shortly, depending on your account, either through direct deposit or physical check. Nationwide believes in sharing its profits with its members; that’s why they come up with some bonuses or payments from time to time.
Fair Share Payment
After the £50 bonus payments, the customers are hoping for a Fair share payment, where they share the profits with members to reward them for staying loyal to the bank and choosing Nationwide for their everyday banking use or mortgage with them.
The bonus payment is different from the Nationwide Fair Share Payment; customers hoping for his payment can expect the announcement in May 2025. Last year, the bank offered a £100 payment to the eligible members with a qualifying account.
The amount of the Fair Share Payment depends on the financial performance of Nationwide. The members can expect a good amount of bonus as the building society is doing great after the acquisition.
