Rebate Check Payout
Governor Hochul has announced that the rebate amount will depend on the New York taxpayers’ income reported in the tax return and their filing status. So, people wondering about their rebate check amount can find out the payout based on the income below:
- For joint filers:
- Couples filing taxes jointly with income up to $150,000 will be entitled to a $400 check, whereas if the income exceeds $150,000 but not $300,000, they can receive a rebate check of $300.

Do you need to apply?
The New York State governor has announced the rebate check for New York taxpayers to fight inflation and confirmed that taxpayers do not have to submit any application related to the rebate check.
According to the budget, around $2 billion will be used for the refund checks in the state.
The funding for the inflation rebate check will come from the sales tax revenue, and now the revenue will be back in the pockets of the New Yorkers.
The government knows that with inflation, the prices of everything are becoming higher, which is causing problems to New Yorkers; hence, without any hassle, the taxpayers will receive their deserved refund check.
However, if anyone has changed their bank account information or mailing address from the information they filed in the tax return, they should immediately update the information to the Taxation and Finance Department of the State.
When to expect?
The authority will process the inflation refund check directly to the accounts of the New Yorkers based on their tax return information and income reported on it. The authority has not clarified when they will process the inflation rebate check.
The New Yorkers can expect the authority to send the rebate checks later this year. The announcement says the authority will update soon about the check processing and timing of sending the payout checks.
Impact
With the initiative of refund checks and other affordability plans taken by the New York State legislature and the Governor, the authority expects the following changes in the lives of New Yorkers:
- With the refund check, the governor expects New Yorkers to get their money back and get the needed help to manage their expenses, which are rising with inflation.
- According to the United Way True Cost of Living Report, around 50% of New Yorkers who are working are struggling to make their living, and they need such support to get some burden off and pay their bills.
- Such policies of tax cuts for middle-class to lowest-class families, or a refund check, will help in cutting the poverty rate in the State, for instance, a child tax credit up to $1000 would pull children out of poverty.
- The New York State lawmakers are focusing on the children and families with the affordability plan to ease the financial burden on them and support the children to ensure they have proper meals for better health and growth, and to support their education.
The governor Houchl has brought huge relief to many families with an affordability plan in the 2026 Budget deal, so be ready to receive the one-time inflation rebate check.
