Americans who will receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in May 2025 should be happy, as in the next month, they will receive two payouts up to $1450. The reason for the double payment is that the first day of June 2025 is a Sunday, which pushes the payment date for June 2025 to 30 May 2025.
According to the SSA rules, the SSI payout will be processed to the eligible recipients on the first day of the month to ensure the recipients have enough money on hand to cover their monthly expenses. However, sometimes the recipients can expect two payments in the month due to the weekend or bank holiday, the same will happen in the next month.
The Supplemental Security Income offers support to the elderly who hardly have any income or resources, or adults/children suffering from disability or blindness with negligible resources or income.

Who will receive it?
The Social Security Administration has outlined the following eligibility criteria for the SSI benefit:
- You must be either aged 65 or older or have disability or blindness with hardly any income or resources;
- The monthly income threshold for the SSI benefit is $2019, which you earn from work sources; it does not include non-work sources. The parents who apply for the benefit for their disabled child or couples who meet SSI would have a higher income threshold for the benefit.
- The resources or the money you have right now must be under the threshold of $3000 for couples and $2000 for singles, and $2000 for parents with a disabled child.
- The disability criteria are a must for younger people (aged 64 or below); the elderly aged 65 or more do not need to fulfill the disability criteria to get the benefit. The disability for the younger clan is as follows:
- Your disability affects your capability to work for more than 12 months or more, or the doctors have diagnosed that it can result in your death.
- Your disability caused trouble in mobility or made you dependent on someone for your daily activities.
- People with a disability income limit for a month is less than $1,550.
How much?
With a 2.5% 2025 COLA adjustment, the Social Security benefits will be hiked from January 2025, the SSI recipients will receive the same payout they have been receiving from January 2025. According to the COLA 2025, the SSI that recipients can receive the following maximum payout depending on their claiming situation:
- $967 if you are an individual
- $1450 for the couples who claimed SSI
The SSI payout may be reduced due to your income, family income, and living situation, which every recipient should be aware of to know their payment. The recipients can check the factors affecting their SSI payment below:
- If your income (work source) is greater than the income limit, your SSI payout will be reduced. For instance, if your income is above the threshold by $2, your SSI payment will be decreased by $1.
- If the income comes from a non-work source, the reduction part is different, such as for every dollar above the threshold, you will lose $1 from the SSI benefit.
- If you live in some other place or someone’s house without paying for shelter or food, your SSI will decrease to $342.33
Changes you must report
The SSI recipients must report the changes to their pay, living arrangements, or other income/ resources to the Social Security administration to keep receiving the SSI payout as per their current circumstances; otherwise, if they are overpaid, they may have to return the amount or face other consequences or they may miss the payment they deserve.
