Payout Amount

Due to the 2025 COLA adjustment of 2.5%, the Social Security benefits are increased from the previous year’s amount, and so is the SSI payout. The SSI recipients will receive the following maximum payout:

  • Up to $967 (individuals)
  •  Up to $1450 (for couples)

This is the maximum payout for the SSI recipient, however, your payment can be reduced due to many factors, such as your income, family income, or your living situation. The SSI recipients can understand the effect on their payment below:

  • Income effect: If you earn more than the income threshold, for every $2 you earn from work would lessen your SSI payout amount by $1, and for every $1 you earn from non-work sources (disability benefits, pension, unemployment payments), you will lose $1 from your SSI payment. If you have a spouse, their income may also affect your payment, and if you are a child receiving the SSI, your parents’ income may affect your payment.
  • When you live in someone else’s house or someplace other than your home, where you are not paying for the accommodation cost, food cost, your SSI payment will be decreased to $343.33.

Who is eligible?

People living in the US can check the following eligibility criteria of SSI benefits to see if they qualify for the payment or not:

  • The SSI benefit is for adults or children who have no or little income or resources, or have a disability/blindness, or are adults aged 65 or older.
  • The income limit (wages and Social Security benefits) for the SSI payment is $2019/ month for individuals, however, it will be higher for couples or parents who have applied for their children. If you have a disability, you must have earned less than $1550 from work sources.
  • In terms of the resources parameter, the US citizens must have limited resources, such as $2000 for individuals (or parents with a disabled child) and $3000 for couples. The resources here mean things you own, such as a vehicle, or money in the bank, etc.
  • The elderly aged 65 or older are entitled to this benefit without any disability or blindness; however, if your age is 64 or younger, you must have disability with the following conditions:
  • A disability that prevents you from working and earning money;
  • A disability that can cause death or has been affecting your work for more than a year.
  • A disability that makes you dependent on somebody for daily activities or limits your mobility.
  • Non-citizens of the US can also claim this benefit if they meet the above qualifications and are from the qualified alien category.

Changes to report

The SSI recipients must report the changes in their lives to ensure they receive the payment continuously. The changes they need to report under the SSI benefits are:

  • Your monthly income and other resources income through the SSA mobile wage reporting app or through the automated call service at +1 866 772 0953 or +1 800 772 1213 for self-employment and other sources of income.
  • You must report the change in your living situation that can affect your payout through the SSA number at +1800 772 1213 during weekdays between * aM to 7 PM.

What if payment is not received?

The Social Security Administration processes the payment to the eligible US citizens on the scheduled payment date; however, if recipients find they have not received their payment, they should take the following steps:

  • First, you should wait for three business days from the payment date, as it can be delayed due to mailing issues or any other technical issues.
  • If the payout did not reach or be reflected in the bank account in three additional business days, you should contact the SSA at +1800 772 1213 and ask about your payment whereabouts.

The SSA will resolve your issue and tell you the reason for your SSI payment delay, so be alert around the payment day and check whether you have received the payout or not.
