The US Department of Veterans Affairs offers Veterans Clothing Allowance under disability benefits. Under this allowance, the federal government offers a one-time annual payment to veterans with specific disabilities, especially prosthetics or orthopedic, to buy new clothes.
Veterans who meet the eligibility requirements for the allowance need to apply every year, as it is an annual allowance. However, veterans who received allowance in 2022 or 2023 do not need to apply unless they wish to receive additional clothing allowance. For the 2025 clothing allowance, the veterans have to apply on or before 01 August 2025.
The application period till summer allows the Veterans Affairs enough time to process the applications and disburse the one-time payment at the end of the year. Eligibility Criteria
The veterans who wish to apply for the 2025 Veteran Affairs Clothing allowance can check the revised eligibility requirements below:
- You must meet any of the following criteria:
- Your clothing is damaged due to a prosthetic or orthopedic device, such as a wheelchair.
- Your outer clothing is damaged or ruined due to the skin medicine, and the damage can’t be repaired.
- You required the device or skin medicine due to the illness or injury related to the military service during their service.
- Clothing included for the allowance are shirts, pants, blouses, shorts, and similar garments. Shoes, scarves, hats, socks, undergarments, and other similar garments are not included in the allowance.
Allowance Amount
Under the Veteran Clothing Allowance, the federal government provides an annual payment if you have more than one orthopedic or prosthetic device, or you have more than one skin medicine, or if both your device or skin medicine affects your one type of clothing.
According to the 2025 adjustments, Veterans Affairs has set the clothing allowance up to $1024.50 to support them for buying new clothes. The veterans who have received the allowance in 2022 or 2023 can expect the payment to decrease or stop if the department finds they no longer meet the eligibility requirements.
How to claim?
Veterans who meet the eligibility requirements for the clothing allowance and wish to apply on or before 01 August 2025, first, you need to download the VA Form for the annual clothing allowance (VA Form 10-8678) at https://www.va.gov/find-forms/about-form-10-8678/. You can complete the application process for the VA Clothing allowance in the following way:
- VA Medical Center: The veterans can bring or mail their completed VA clothing allowance form to the prosthetic representatives at the VA medical center.
- Mail: You can mail the VA clothing allowance form to the following mailing address:

- By fax: The veterans can also fax the completed form of the VA clothing allowance to the following numbers:
- 844 531 7818 for applicants in the US,
- 248 524 4260 for applicants living outside the US.
The veterans should know that they have to submit evidence of the disability and other information with the application. The documents should be valid, if the authority finds any duplicate documents and the applicant is trying to commit fraud, such applicants can face imprisonment and other legal actions.
When can you expect?
According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, the application for the clothing allowance will be collected till 01 August 2025, and if the department finds the applicant eligible for the allowance, they will process the annual payment between 01 September and 31 October 2025.
Veterans must understand that to be eligible for more than one clothing allowance, the applicant must wear or damage more than one type of clothing, or the skin medicine must damage more than one article of clothing for the year you are applying for the allowance.
