VA Clothing Allowance Form 2025: Apply Date, Eligibility and Benefits!

Veterans with skin conditions or people who use orthopedic or prosthetic devices may get support from the Veterans Affairs department for the clothes that may be wrecked or damaged due to the use of medicine or devices. The allowance offers a one-time annual allowance to the eligible veteran to meet their clothing requirement.

The veterans may become eligible for more than one annual clothing allowance, and they may have to apply every year for the allowance; however, if you have received the assistance in 2022 or 2023, you may not need to apply every year. 

Veterans who wish to apply for the additional allowance should apply for the benefit before 01 August of that year, as the VA collects the application form all year till 01 August, and if you qualify and the department approves your application, your payment will be processed shortly.

Who is eligible to claim?

The veterans who fulfill the eligibility conditions listed below for the VA clothing allowance can claim the annual payment:

  •  You should at least have the prosthetic or orthopedic device that tears or damages the clothes of the veterans, or you have a skin condition, and your medicine for the condition may damage your outer clothing, which can’t be corrected or repaired. 
  • You are taking the medicine for the skin condition, or the device you are using, because of the illness or injury that may be related to your service in the military. 

Clothing Included

The veterans can claim the VA clothing allowance when the qualified appliances or medicines damage the veteran’s outer clothing more than one type, such as:

  • Shirts
  • Blouses
  • Pants
  • Skirts
  • Shorts
  • Or any Similar garments.

However, the clothings that is not included in the VA clothing allowance are socks, scarves, hats, shoes, undergarments, and other similar garments. 

Payout Amount 

The veterans who qualify for the Clothing allowance receive the payout based on the annual adjustment made by the department. The annual payment is reviewed and assessed annually to ensure it is as per the current consumer index, so based on the 2025 rates for the benefits, the veterans can anticipate receiving the VA clothing allowance payment as follows:

  • You will receive a payout up to $1024.50 for the damaged clothes and for buying new clothes in a year.

The payout is based on the damaged clothes; however, if you qualify for more than one prosthetic or orthopedic device, or have medication related to more than one service-connected disability or injury can expect the additional clothing allowance. 

Application Form & Process

Veterans can submit the VA Form 10-8678 application to the VA medical center in their area if they want to apply for the clothing allowance. Veterans who have a service-connected disability or injury must first apply for the disability benefits or compensation that are available.

You can fill out VA Form 21-526 and submit it to the VBA regional office if you haven’t claimed disability compensation, which is required for the Clothing Allowance application. Veterans who are comfortable with applications can follow the steps below for the Clothing allowance 2025:

  • You should download the VA Clothing allowance form from the VA.gov and fill out the application form, and bring the form to the local VA medical center, or mail or fax it to the following address:

When to expect?

If you match the requirements and your application is approved by the medical facility, your clothing allowance payment for the year will be issued between September 1st and October 31st, 2025. The Veterans Affairs department will hold the application until August 1st, 2025.

The VA clothing allowance recipients who are receiving the benefit from past years, but now do not meet the eligibility criteria, the department may stop the payout for them for the year; hence, keep your situation updated with the VA department.
