Millions of vulnerable Africans depend on the SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) grants to manage their livelihood. The SRD (Social Relief Distress) is one of the SASSA benefits that was started during the pandemic to support the people and later got extended.

Payment Dates
The SASSA announced SRD grant payout dates for the April 2025 payments, so the recipients can check them below:
- The SRD payment will be distributed from 25 April to 30 April 2025 to the beneficiaries, where the beneficiaries can collect their payment on the specific day based on the last three digits of their identity numbers.
The SRD payout will be distributed on time, the recipients may receive SMS alerts from the agency, or they can check the SASSA online platforms to collect their SRD grants.
SRD Status check
South African people who have claimed the SRD grant can check their grant status online or through various other methods to be sure that they will receive the payout on time. According to the SRD guidelines, the applicants can check the status in the following steps online:
- You can visit the official website of SASSA mentioned above.
- Next, go to the Check Status check option and enter your ID number and mobile number registered with the SASSA.
- Once you enter all the details and submit them, your SRD grant status will appear on your screen.
If you find your SRD application rejected, you can appeal the rejection to the agency to get it reviewed again. The SRD recipients can also check their SRD status through WhatsApp (082 046 8553), Moya App, USSD Code (12069277#), or any other methods.
Who will receive it?
According to the SASSA guidelines, people living in South Africa can claim and receive the SRD grant when they meet the following eligibility criteria:
- You must be a South African citizen, refugee, or permanent resident who is legally living in South Africa.
- The South Africans who earn under the income limit determined by the SASSA will be eligible for this benefit. The income limit is R624, so if you earn more than this or your bank account exceeds the limit, you will not receive this benefit.
- This SRD grant was initiated for unemployed people or people struggling to make money, so they should meet this criterion to get the payout.
- The applicant’s age for the SRD grant should be between 18 and 59 years old.
- The applicants who receive any other government benefit or are entitled to the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) benefits will not be entitled to this benefit.
Payment Method
SASSA agency would process the SRD payment to the recipients in the mentioned interval through the following methods:
- Direct to the bank account: SASSA grants the SRD payment to the recipient’s bank account as per their selected payment method.
- SA Post office: The recipients can also collect their SRD grants through the post office. Beneficiaries who have opted for the Post Office must visit their nearest Pick ‘n Pay or Boxer Supermarket to collect their payment. The recipients must wait for the agency SMS message of payment availability before collecting their payment.
- Physical Check: People can also receive the SRD payment through a physical check and get the benefit.
