SASSA provides many grants and assistance that help the South Africans deal with the financial crisis, one such grant is the Social Relief of Distress. According to recent reports, the agency is paying around R20 billion a month in grants for 19 million social grants.
SRD grants are monthly financial assistance up to R370 offered to eligible South Africans to manage their basic living costs. The SRD recipients will now receive the April 2025 payment in a few days, as the agency processes the SRD payout typically in the last week of the month.
The recipients can check the status to ensure they will receive the April 2025 payment and get the real-time status of the grant. The government has recently extended the SRD grant till March 2026, as the grant was initially started during the pandemic to support unemployed people.

SASSA Status Check
The SRD recipients who wish to check whether they will receive the upcoming payment or not can check the SRD status online in the following steps:
- You can go to the official website of SASSA SRD mentioned in the table above.
- Next, select the Check Status tab after finding the Status Check icon.
- Now, both your SASSA-registered mobile number and your 13-digit South African ID number need to be entered.
- Next, click the Status Check button, and your SRD grant status will display on your screen.
Status Check Other Method
The recipients who are not comfortable with checking the SRD status online can check it via WhatsApp number, the Moya app, and other methods, such as:

If your SASSA grant is approved, you can easily check your payment dates in the status; however, if it is pending, your details are still under review. You can file an appeal and reapply with supporting documentation if your SRD status shows a denied status.
Who is eligible?
A South African who fulfills the below eligibility conditions will be entitled to the SRD grants as per the SASSA regulation:
- You should be living in South Africa and hold citizenship, or you are a refugee who is living in the country under the respective laws.
- You are unemployed or your income is under the limit set by the agency, such as you have only R624 in your bank account. If you earn more than the limit and have more than the limit in your bank account, you will be ineligible for the grant.
- The age requirement for the SRD grant is 18 years old minimum age, and 58 is the maximum age.
- As the grant is for financial distress, you must be struggling to earn for yourself and your family.
- You are not entitled to or receiving any other government grant for unemployment, only then can you avail of the SRD grant.
When to expect?
The SASSA processes the SRD grants typically in the last week of the payment month to ensure the recipients have finances to plan their next month’s living expenses. The agency announced the payment date through the official channels; according to reports, the recipients can expect the SRD payment of April 2025 on the following dates:
- Between 25 April and 28 April 2025.
The payout date may vary for the recipients depending on their last three digits of their ID number or the day they have received their first payments. So, the recipients must check their bank accounts and other payment modes of the SRD grants during the payment interval to ensure they have received the payment.
What to do if payment is delayed?
The SASSA processes the SRD or any other grants payment on time; however, if by any chance the payout of the recipients is delayed, the recipients can take the following action:
- You should first check the SRD status on the official website and see if your application is approved and the payment date for the upcoming month.
- You should ensure your bank details are correct and the account is active if you have selected the direct bank account payment mode for the grant.
- You should wait for a few more business days from your scheduled payout date before contacting the agency through the customer care number 0800 60 10 11 or sending an email to GrantEnquiries@sassa.gov.za.
SASSA will process the April 2025 SRD payout in a few days. The recipients can check the status and be sure of their payout or take action if the grant application is declined or pending.
